Xiaomi's first cars with a gas tank arrive, 10,000 Skynomad orders locked in 4 minutes

At Xiaomi's autumn flagship launch on September 7, Lei Jun unveiled the Skynomad pricing, with the N70 Pro at 209,900 yuan (about $31,300), the N70 Max at 239,900 yuan (about $35,750) and the N90 Max at 269,900 yuan (about $40,200).

All three undercut their pre-sale prices, with the N70 Max dropping 20,000 yuan from 259,900 and the N90 Max down 30,000 yuan from 299,900. The series locked in over 10,000 orders within 4 minutes, meaning more than 10,000 customers paid non-refundable deposits.

This is the first time Xiaomi has built a vehicle with a fuel tank, since the SU7 and YU7 were both pure EVs, and the Skynomad series marks the company's formal entry into the range-extender segment, the hottest battleground in China's SUV market.

All three models use Xiaomi's Kunlun 1.5T range extender with 42 percent thermal efficiency and 112 kW (about 150 hp), and the engine weighs just 99.8 kg (about 220 pounds) and runs on 92, 95 or 98 RON gasoline.

The trim ladder is clear, with the N70 Pro as the entry mid-to-large five-seat range-extender SUV carrying a 52 kWh LFP battery for 351 km (about 218 miles) of CLTC electric range and 1,351 km (about 839 miles) combined, plus a peak output of 210 kW (about 282 hp), a 0 to 100 km/h (about 0 to 62 mph) time of 7.9 seconds and 5.7 L/100km (about 41 MPG) when running on fuel.

The N70 Max steps up to a 76 kWh ternary battery for 505 km (about 314 miles) of CLTC electric range and 1,461 km (about 907 miles) combined, with dual-motor all-wheel drive peaking at 310 kW (about 416 hp) and a 5.5-second sprint to 100 km/h, plus standard air springs and continuously variable dampers.

That 505 km electric range is currently the highest in the range-extender SUV segment, since only one of the top ten best-selling EREV SUVs in the first half topped 500 km of pure-electric range.

The N90 Max is the large seven-seat flagship, at 5,285 mm (about 208 inches) long with a 3,080 mm (about 121 inches) wheelbase and a 2+2+3 layout, with 1,705 km (about 1,059 miles) of combined range.

The 10,000 locked orders in 4 minutes is not the most explosive number in Xiaomi's own lineup, since the SU7 took 50,000 orders in 27 minutes in 2024 and the YU7 grabbed 200,000 in 3 minutes in 2025.

But the Skynomad series is fighting in the most brutal segment of all, the range-extender SUV market where Li Auto, Aito and Leapmotor are already battling, and a 10,000-unit start in 4 minutes is enough to put pressure on rivals.

Xiaomi has now delivered over 800,000 vehicles, and with the SU7, YU7 and the Skynomad N70 and N90, its lineup has covered sedans, pure-electric SUVs and range-extender SUVs, the three main tracks of the Chinese market, in less than two years.
