smart's two-door city car returns, and the #2 Couture Edition's 999 Chinese units sell out instantly

The smart #2 Couture Edition officially launched on October 12 with 999 units for China at an official retail price of 112,999 yuan (about $16,880), and the official app already shows the car as sold out, making it a seriously hot item.

The car made its global debut at the Paris auto show, marking a heavyweight return by smart to the two-door, two-seat electric city car segment.

The Couture Edition wears a two-tone finish of matte cloud white body and corona gold high-gloss roof, inspired by Pantone's 2026 Color of the Year, Cloud.

Outside it gets an exclusive gilded patterned grille, a gilded badge and 16-inch gilded sky wheels, while the cabin keeps smart's classic two-seat layout with a Bench Seat and a nut-style high-strength safety body structure. Every car carries an exclusive numbered plaque, giving owners plenty of emotional value and ceremony.

As smart's latest returning two-door model, the car measures 2,764 mm long, 1,669 mm wide and 1,555 mm tall on a 1,875 mm wheelbase, built on the ECA electric compact architecture with the battery pack and rear drive unit highly integrated.

Power comes from a 60 kW (about 80 hp) rear single motor paired with a 35.8 kWh CATL lithium iron phosphate battery for 410 km (about 255 miles) of CLTC range, a 30 to 80 percent fast charge in under 15 minutes and a top speed of 140 km/h (about 87 mph). The chassis uses MacPherson struts up front and a five-link independent rear, with a minimum turning radius of just 3.35 meters (about 11 feet).

smart says the #2 Couture Edition is limited to 1,998 units worldwide, with China's quota at 999 and the other 999 going to Europe, and buyers who order now can take delivery within the year.

Those who missed out need not despair, since the Premium trim is now open for configuration and is expected to launch as soon as next month, with some stores hinting the price could come in under 100,000 yuan (about $14,940) for better value.
