GAC's 2027 Aion i60 claims 1,080 miles of range, the longest of any EREV, from $15,440

GAC Aion launched the 2027 i60 on September 15 in seven trims, with official prices from 111,600 to 142,800 yuan (about $16,630 to $21,280) and benefit prices from 103,600 to 134,800 yuan (about $15,440 to $20,090).

For reference, the current i60 launched last November at 109,800 to 135,800 yuan with 1,240 km of combined range.

The new EREV model jumps to 1,738 km, a gain of nearly 500 km, with its battery upgraded from 29.165 kWh to 45.37 kWh and electric-only range rising from 210 km (about 130 miles) to 350 km (about 217 miles).

As a model-year update, the design carries over from the current car, but the equipment list gets several upgrades, including a 15.6-inch 2.5K center screen replacing the 14.6-inch unit, a new front trunk and a load-bearing aluminum roof rack, while the EV version debuts amorphous electric drive technology and lifts CLTC range to as much as 700 km (about 435 miles).

On the powertrain side, the EV uses a front permanent-magnet synchronous motor with 165 kW (about 221 hp) and 205 Nm (about 151 lb-ft), offered with 56.68 kWh and 77.65 kWh packs for 520 km (about 323 miles) and 700 km of CLTC range, while the EREV pairs a 1.5L range extender with a 160 kW (about 215 hp) motor making 235 Nm (about 173 lb-ft), a standard 45.37 kWh battery and 350 km of electric range for 1,738 km combined.

With 1,738 km of range and a benefit price just over 100,000 yuan, the Aion i60 pushes the entry bar for long-range EREVs down another notch, and in a segment that Li Auto and Aito have already heated up, GAC is picking a fight with the longest range figure and one of the lowest price tags, though whether that number converts into sales will depend on how buyers vote on charging networks and product polish.
