China-built Mercedes-Benz VLE debuts with a 115 kWh pack and 435 miles of WLTP range

The Mercedes-Benz VLE, a large electric MPV, surfaced in the latest batch of China's MIIT filings on August 7, setting up a direct fight with the Li Auto MEGA and Zeekr 009 at an expected price around 500,000 yuan (about $74,000).

The China-built version largely follows the global model's design, with a big front grille that can be optioned as an illuminated grille or an AMG-style grille. The headlights carry three-pointed star details for stronger brand recognition.

The VLE measures 5,310 mm long, 2,000 mm wide and 1,922 mm tall (209 by 79 by 76 inches) on a 3,340 mm (131.5 inch) wheelbase, roughly matching the recently launched Zunjie V680. Wheel sizes range from 19 to 21 inches depending on trim.

A short front overhang opens up cabin space, while the raked windshield and gently sloping roofline form a sleek profile that cuts drag. A sizable spoiler, vertical taillights and a large tailgate finish off the rear.

Inside, the cabin follows the usual MPV layout of 2+2+3 seats. The second row gets aviation-style seats, and the third row is expected to offer individually reclining backrests on long sliding rails.

Two powertrains are on offer. The VLE 300 uses a single motor with 200 kW (268 hp), while the VLE 400 4MATIC pairs two motors at 200 kW and 105 kW (268 hp and 141 hp), good for 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds, about 6.1 seconds to 60 mph. Based on known specs, the VLE rides on an 800V architecture with a 115 kWh ternary lithium battery pack, and the VLE 300 is rated at 700 km (435 miles) of WLTP range.
