BYD's New Denza N8 Claims 623 Miles of Range From a 130 kWh Battery, and It Weighs 6,300 Pounds

China's latest MIIT filing catalog shows the all-electric Denza N8 offered with two LFP battery options, a 130.15 kWh pack and a 105.792 kWh unit, corresponding to four CLTC range ratings of 623, 603, 522 and 497 miles, with the 623-mile version tipping the scales at 6,305 pounds and beating the 590 miles of BYD's Da Tang EV.

The extended-wheelbase Denza N8L uses the same 130.15 kWh battery and is rated at 597 miles CLTC.

Two personalities are on the menu, rear-drive single-motor versions tuned to 429 or 496 hp, and for buyers chasing outright performance a tri-motor e3 all-wheel-drive flagship with a 362 hp front motor, twin 416 hp rear motors and 1,194 hp combined, good for a 149 mph top speed, with independent rear-wheel steering cutting the turning circle to 15 feet.

Charging is the other card up its sleeve, as the entire lineup carries the second-generation Blade Battery with flash charging, officially quoted as a top-up in five minutes, a full charge in nine, and only three extra minutes at minus 22 degrees Fahrenheit.

The Denza N8 is positioned as a large five-seat pure electric SUV, 202.8 inches long on a 121.1-inch wheelbase, aimed squarely at the segment above 300,000 yuan (about $44,500) where the Li Auto L9 and Aito M9 live.

One thing worth keeping in mind, China's CLTC range figures are laboratory numbers with a real gap to actual driving, and converting to the US EPA standard usually means a discount of around 30 percent, Hitting even that number at 6,305 pounds, though, is genuinely impressive.
