A Runaway Porsche Rolled Toward a $1 Million Rolls-Royce in China, So Two Workers Stopped It With Their Bodies

A rental lot in Sanya briefly hosted the world's most expensive near-miss on August 14. A returned Porsche 718, parked on a slope in neutral with no handbrake, started rolling backward toward the shop's own Rolls-Royce, a car worth more than $1 million, where even a respray can cost more than a family sedan.

The shop's driver spotted it first and threw himself at the moving Porsche, getting knocked flat in the process, before a car washer piled in and the two muscled the car to a halt less than 18 inches from disaster. Total property damage came in at exactly zero.

The owner arrived, checked the scraped-up driver first, handed him a red envelope of cash on the spot and promised both men hefty bonuses. One of them walked away as the new store manager, according to The Beijing News.

The clip is now viral in China, with commenters calling it the cheapest brake assist ever fitted to a Porsche, because no matter how good the engineering is, somebody still has to pull the handbrake.
