BYD has refreshed its best-selling Seal 06 sedan for 2027, and the update brings more space, a cleaner face and lidar-based driving assistance.
The 2027 Seal 06 went on sale in China on August 11 in 12 trims, split evenly between EV and DM-i plug-in hybrid. The DM-i versions start at RMB 99,900 (about $14,800) and top out at RMB 141,900 (about $21,000), while the EV versions run from RMB 109,900 (about $16,300) to RMB 155,900 (about $23,100).
The car measures 4,870 mm (192 inches) long, 1,890 mm (74 inches) wide and 1,495 mm (59 inches) tall on a 2,820 mm (111 inches) wheelbase. The EV is 150 mm (6 inches) longer and 10 mm wider than before, while the DM-i adds 40 mm of length and 30 mm of wheelbase, freeing up more shoulder and rear legroom. The EV also gains a front trunk.
Both powertrains now share a closed-off front end, dropping the grille look of the previous hybrid. Twin-lens LED headlamps get a darker finish and sharper lines, with new air intakes on the bumper. The side profile keeps the classic fastback silhouette, with blacked-out B and C pillars for a floating roof, half-hidden door handles and 16, 17 or 18-inch wheels.
The headline upgrade is the tech. High-end trims mount an external lidar unit on the roof, paired with BYD's God's Eye B driver-assist suite for city navigation, highway navigation and all-scenario smart parking. The cabin keeps the floating center screen with DiLink software, and top trims add DiSus-C intelligent damping suspension that adjusts firmness to road conditions.
Powertrains are split by version. The DM-i uses the fifth-generation Super DM hybrid system, with a 1.5-liter engine making 74 kW (99 hp) and a drive motor at 175 kW (235 hp). CLTC electric-only range comes in at 230 km (143 miles) or 320 km (199 miles). The EV versions upgrade to 120 kW (161 hp) or 240 kW (322 hp) motors, riding on second-generation Blade batteries with flash-charging tech for 530 km (329 miles) or 630 km (391 miles) of CLTC range.
The Seal 06 already sells overseas as the Seal 6. In the UK, the Seal 6 DM-i starts at GBP 33,990 (about $46,000), roughly three times its Chinese price, while the Seal 6 EV has not yet launched abroad.
